Keep up to date on the ever-evolving technology with 49ͼ¿â Community College Continuing Education Technology classes beginning this September. These short-term classes are a great way to boost your resume or learn new computer skills.

In "Microsoft Office Overview," you will learn a little of everything that Microsoft Office offers. Sessions will be on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, and One Note. Held Mondays and Wednesdays, September 11-October 18, from 6-8 pm, this class will cost $75.

"Windows-Level 2" will enhance your Windows skills. Discover how to use the Action Center and the All Settings screen, how to customize your Desktop, set up and use virtual desktops, create folders for basic file management, and how to use File Explorer. A brief introduction to email and the Windows Store will be covered, as well as how to update Windows and keep it safe. The prerequisite for this course is Windows Level 1 or prior experience. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 12-October 19, from 6-8 pm, this class will cost $75.

"Adobe Acrobat" will teach students the essentials of creating and modifying PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat DC Pro. They will become proficient in navigating the interface, using tools and menus, and adjusting preferences. Students will also learn to create PDFs through different methods and merge multiple PDFs. They will gain skills in navigating, searching, bookmarking, and linking within PDFs. The course covers commenting, reviewing, editing text and images, and manipulating pages. By leveraging the power of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, students will ensure document integrity regardless of the viewer's perspective. Held Fridays, September 15-October 20, from 2:30-4:30 pm, this class will cost $75.

"Computer Basics 1" will teach you to become a confident, self-sufficient computer user. You can learn hands-on practical computer skills and discuss computer-related topics. This introductory course is for the computer novice with little to no computer experience. Held Thursdays, September 14-October 19, from 9-11 am, this class will cost $75.

"CompTIA Network+ Certification Prep" will teach you to develop a career in I.T. infrastructure covering troubleshooting, configuring, and managing networks. CompTIA Network+ validates the hands-on skills needed to troubleshoot, configure, and manage both wired and wireless networks. This powerful credential will help take your I.T. career to the next level. This course helps students build computer networking skills that provide a solid foundation for securing devices that connect endpoints to the internet and continue the path to becoming a Cybersecurity Analyst. CompTIA I.T. Credentials and Cyber Security track of three certification preparation courses can be taken in any order. Held Tuesdays-Thursdays, September 5-December 21, from 6-9 pm, this class will cost $185 plus the cost of the software, $129. There will be no class on November 7, 11, 23, and 24. Scholarship funds are available for course and software fees.

Seats are still available for these Workforce Continuing Education classes and do not require an application. Next Session

Continuing Education classes begin throughout the semester. New and returning students do not need to apply to the College, simply register for class.

An eight-week session of fall semester curriculum classes begins on October 11. Offered online and in hybrid class formats, classes take only eight weeks to complete and award full credits. For all information, go to www.sandhills.edu/learn.

New students taking curriculum/college credit classes must apply before registering. 49ͼ¿â has an open-door policy, which means all applicants are accepted. On www.sandhills.edu, new students can find the application at the top right. Returning or current students can register by using Self-Service located on MySCC. 

Boys & Girls Club

A Boys & Girls Club unit is offered on the 49ͼ¿â campus. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab, or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. The club provides transportation from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.

In addition, drop-in services are available free of charge to 49ͼ¿â students from 6-9 pm. This is ideal for students taking afternoon or evening classes, working on group projects, or for other academic reasons. Classes for High School Students

Moore and Hoke County High School students can take SCC classes as juniors and seniors at no cost. High school counselors can help schedule these classes or home or private school students can contact Kim McMillan at mcmillank@sandhills.edu.

Students who reside in Moore and Hoke Counties and successfully complete the required number of classes through 49ͼ¿â while in high school can qualify to receive two full years of paid tuition through our 49ͼ¿â Promise program. 49ͼ¿â awards over $350,000 to pay tuition and fees for 49ͼ¿â Promise students each year. The 49ͼ¿â Promise applications are due each year by mid-July.
