Transportation

"Auto Safety Inspection" certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license. Held Monday and Thursday, January 8 and 11, from 6-10 pm, this class will cost $75.

"CDL Truck Driver Training" is a 10-week training program that offers an extensive curriculum encompassing classroom instruction, hands-on range driving, and on-road driving experience. It is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to obtain a Commercial Learner's Permit and Class A License endorsements. The registration fee covers a DOT physical examination, DOT drug test, textbooks, and student fees, ensuring a comprehensive and all-inclusive training experience. Business 

"Real Estate Pre-Licensing" provides an intensive review of topics and prepares the student for the NC Broker licensing examination. Topics covered include real estate terms, contracts, leases, ownership, licensing law, finance, listing and closing of property, property valuation, and building construction. 80% of classes must be attended in order to take the state exam. The prerequisite for this class is Work Keys Reading and Math, Level 4 or higher, or verification of a post-secondary degree. Held Monday and Wednesday, January 8-May 6, from 6-9 pm, this class will cost $185 plus the cost of the text. There will be no class on January 15, March 4 and 6, and April 1. 

Construction and Trades

"Blueprint Reading & Estimating" covers blueprint basics, specifications, site plans, and architectural plans. Then, once you understand how to read the blueprints, you will learn how to do quantity takeoffs and pricing. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 9-May 7, from 6-9 pm, this class will cost $187.50 plus the cost of the text. There will be no class on April 2, March 5 and 7. 

"Electrical Level 1" introduces trainees to the electrical trade, safety, circuits, National Electrical Code, device boxes, hand bending, raceways, and fittings, conductors and cables, electrical construction drawings, residential electrical services, and test equipment. The prerequisite for this class is NCCER Core + OSHA 10. Held Mondays, Wednesdays, and occasional Saturdays, January 3-May 13, from 6-9 pm Monday and Wednesday and 9 am-3 pm on Saturdays, this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the text. There will be no class on January 15 and April 1 and 2.  

"NCCER Core + OSHA 10" is a prerequisite/co-requisite to Level 1 Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding classes. Modules include basic safety, communication skills, and an introduction to construction drawings. Students earn NCCER Core and OSHA 10 certifications. Held Monday and Wednesday, January 22-May 13, from 6-9 pm, this class will cost $243.50 plus the cost of the text. There will be no class on April 1. Another section will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 23-May 14, from 6-9 pm. There will be no class on April 2. 

"HVAC Level I" covers an introduction to HVAC, trade mathematics, basic electricity, introduction to heating and introduction to cooling, an introduction to air distribution systems, basic copper and plastic piping practices, soldering and brazing, and basic carbon steel piping practices. The prerequisite for this class is NCCER Core + OSHA 10. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 11-May 30, from 6-9 pm, this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the text. There will be no class on April 4.

"HVAC Level II" covers the following: alternating current, compressors, refrigerants and oils, leak detection evacuation recovery and charging, metering devices, heat pumps, basic maintenance, chimneys vents and flues, sheet metal duct systems, fiberglass and fabric duct systems, commercial airside systems, air quality equipment, and introduction to hydronic systems. The prerequisite for this class is HVAC Level I. Held Mondays and Wednesdays, January 8-June 3, from 6-9:30 pm; this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the text. Scholarships are available. There will be no class on January 15, April 1, and May 27. An additional section will be offered Monday-Friday, January 29-May 31, from 8-9:30 am. This class will follow the Moore County Schools schedule. 

"Plumbing Level II" covers plumbing math two, reading commercial drawings, structural penetrations, insulation, and fire stopping; installing and testing DWV piping; installing roof, floor, and area drains; installing and testing water supply piping, types of valves, installing fixtures and valves, installing water heaters, basic electricity, and fuel gas and fuel oil systems. The prerequisite for this class is Plumbing Level I. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 9-June 6, from 6-9:30 pm, this class will cost $211.50 plus the cost of the text.

"Welding Fundamentals" is geared towards beginners and hobbyists; this class focuses on the fundamentals used in MIG and Stick welding with a strong emphasis on safety. Topics covered include metal cutting and fitting, as well as welding techniques using generally recognized industry processes. This class is not required to enroll in Welding Level 1. Held on Saturdays, January 6-May 11, from 9 am-3 pm, this class will cost $287.50

Landscape Gardening

"USGA Greenkeeper Apprenticeship Program – Golf Course Technician Level 1" is a new one-year program that will combine classroom instruction with on-the-job training. Students can earn while they learn the skills to be a greenkeeper; each apprentice will be a full-time employee of a local golf course, or you can take the classroom portion to see if this is a career you want to pursue. You must complete both levels 1 & 2 to complete the program and earn the certificate. Topics will include Turfgrass, Soils & Fertility, Pest & Water Management, Rules of Golf, Leadership skills, and more. For more information, please contact Carson Letot at Letotc@sandhills.edu. 

Manufacturing

"Basic Machining" is designed to help individuals meet entry-level requirements for machining employment. Instruction includes the operation of drill presses, metal-cutting saws, lathes, milling machines, and grinders. Students will produce precision parts utilizing appropriate speeds, feeds, and tooling. Content is designed to prepare students to take the NIMS Certification test. Held Tuesdays, Thursdays, and occasional Saturdays, January 9-May 14, from 5-8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 am-3 pm on Saturdays, this class will cost $262.50 plus the cost of the text. Saturday classes are January 27, February 10, March 9 and 23, April 13, and May 4.

Education

"Pathway to Teacher Assistant" is the first course in a series of two. This course is designed to fulfill 48 of the 96 hours of continuing education credits required for employment in the local school system as a Teacher Assistant. This course reviews skills needed for successfully completing three WorkKeys Skills Assessments: Workplace Documents, Applied Math & Writing. This class includes skills review in reading comprehension, math, and writing. It also provides computer skills training. Spring Semester

Continuing Education classes begin throughout the semester. New and returning students do not need to apply to the College; simply register for classes. Spring semester curriculum classes begin January 8. For all information, go to www.sandhills.edu/learn.

New students taking curriculum/college credit classes must apply before registering. 49ͼ¿â has an open-door policy, which means all applicants are accepted. On www.sandhills.edu, new students can find the application at the top right. Returning or current students can register by using Self-Service located on MySCC. 

Boys & Girls Club

A Boys & Girls Club unit is offered on the 49ͼ¿â campus. It runs from 2:30 to 6:30 pm for kindergarten through fifth grade. The club is ideal for parents/guardians taking SCC afternoon or evening classes, those who need study time, need to utilize the computer lab, or work on projects. Club participants will receive homework assistance, and dinner is offered. The cost is $40 per child per year. The club provides transportation from McDeeds Creek, Farm Life, and Carthage Elementary schools.

In addition, drop-in services are available free of charge to 49ͼ¿â students from 6-9 pm. This is ideal for students taking afternoon or evening classes, working on group projects, or for other academic reasons.
